A sombre mood engulfed Nyamecheo village in Ibeno location, Kisii County after the body of a 25-year-old man was found near Nyanturago river on Monday evening.
Ibeno chief Jason Nyariki confirmed the incident saying the body of Charles Mogendi was discovered by children who were fetching water at the river at around 6 pm.
"Mogendi has been having a mental problem since he was born. His death has shocked villagers. He might have gone to fetch water when he met his tragic death," said the chief as reported by Egesa FM.
The administrator said the death will not be associated in any way to murder because his body had no physical injuries.
He called upon residents to support the deceased family to give him a decent send-off.
Kisii Police Commander Martin Kibet said the body was picked by police officers from Keumbu and taken for preservation at Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital morgue.
"The chief alerted police officers who rushed to the scene and picked the body as villagers start burial plans. A probe has commenced in a bid to establish the cause of Mogendi's death," said Kibet.
