A 16-year- old girl, Mercy Wakhungu, from Birunda, Trans Nzoia County hanged herself after being questioned by her brother where she spent the night.
The incident was reported at Kilimani Police Station by Brigid Wakhungu, who happens to be her sister.
The sister revealed that when the minor was asked to explain where she was the whole night, she refused to open up.
According to Brigid, her deceased sister escaped from home and spent the night at an unknown place only to resurface on Friday morning at 6:00 a.m.
Once back, her brother confronted her.
"My brother demanded that she explains where she had spent the night but she refused, prompting him to punish her," said Brigid.
Trans Nzoia County Police Commander Ayub Ali, revealed that on his confirmation about the incident, the girl locked herself in her room and hanged herself.
"Our officers visited the scene and found the body hanging from the roof with a rope around the neck. There were no visible injuries," Ali noted.
The body of the deceased was taken to Kiminini Cottage Hospital mortuary.
