President Uhuru Kenyatta's succession battle is taking shape with Deputy President William Ruto currently being on pole position to succeed Uhuru.

But with Raila Odinga yet to declare his intentions, Mr Wetangula believes he has ability and willingness to steer the country post Uhuru's presidency.

Speaking at Nyaisa Secondary on Friday, Wetangula urged Mr Odinga to back his bid, arguing that he did his part in 2013 and 2017 polls.

"I supported Raila with the bottom of my heart on two occasions. We won but some devil came in between. However, I am happy with the route he chose," said Wetangula.

"To be fair to all, I think this is my time and I need his support. I find think the other guy (Ruto) can beat me. I  am ready for the battle and I know it's possible," he said.

In both occasions, Wetangula ran as Bungoma Senator and easily carried the day. In 2013, he was forced into a by-election  and Raila led troops in his support.

Last year, a group of ODM senators kicked him out of Senate Minority position, a move which orchastrated his differences with Mr Odinga.
