This comes after the embattled county boss was impeached by the Kiambu Members of County Assembly (MCAs) over an array of graft related charges.

The special sitting was announced by the Senate in a tweet.

''We convene from recess for a Special Sitting this afternoon for Reading of the charges on the proposed removal from office, by impeachment, of Honourable Ferdinand Ndung’u Waititu Babayao, Governor of Kiambu County,'' the Senate announced on its Twitter feed.

Waititu is also battling corruption cases in a court of law filed by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) relating abuse of office for selfish gain and subverting the procurement process.

He has long rejected the charges, saying that they are politically motivated.

A court ordered that he should not step into his office until the case against him is heard and determined.

Deputy Governor James Nyoro is the acting governor and has vowed to step down should Waititu be let off the hook.

The two leaders have publicly traded harsh words in a vicious supremacy battle with Waititu accusing his deputy of engaging in a power grab.

Should the Senate uphold the decision of the Kiambu County Assembly, the governor could seek redress in the courts if he is not satisfied.
