Detectives based at the Pangani Police Station have gunned downed four members of a gang of 6 along Juja Road in Nairobi.

The detectives swung into action after receiving a tip-off from members of the public.

According to a series of posts on the Twitter handle of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the gang was on the run after stealing from 2 residents of Whitecaste, a Nairobi estate.

"FOUR Robbery W/Violence Suspects were early today Gunned Down in a Shoot-out with #Detectives along Juja Road-BH Area, & Two Pistols with several Rounds of Ammunition & Four Knives recovered. The gang had robbed two whitecastle residents and attempted to get away with their car," a tweet by the DCI read.

Two of the gangsters are still at large and detectives have launched a manhunt for them.

They are said to have escaped to the Kosovo Area.

Detectives shot at them after they defied an order to surrender. 

"On receiving the report from the victims, Detectives based in Pangani P/Station launched a Manhunt & caught up with the gang of six, who Disobeyed Orders to surrender and engaged in a gun fight. Two escaped to Kosovo Area but are being pursued, " another DCI tweet read.
