The two were not brought together by politics but rather by their shared love for football.

Both Raila and Mariga shared the VIP section during the international friendly match between Kenya and Uganda which ended in a one-all draw.

The ODM supremo sat in the front row while the former football star sat a few rows behind.

It was a rather bizarre encounter for the two as it came just a day after ODM had concluded its nomination exercise, settling on Imran Okoth, the brother of the late former Kibra Member of Parliament Ken Okoth who succumbed to cancer.

When Kenya found the back of the net in the second half through a well-placed Muguna strike, Raila and Mariga could be seen celebrating the equaliser.

In the coming weeks, Mr Odinga is expected to campaign against Mariga in the Kibra Parliamentary race.

Deputy President Dr William Ruto has promised to be in Kibra Constituency to campaign for the veteran former Harambee Stars player.

Other leaders who joined Mr Odinga at the VIP section were Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed, Langata MP Nixon Korir, and Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen.
