The 2022 Machakos gubernatorial race will be one of the interesting political contests that you should follow.
The race will feature different political heavyweights in the region who are believed to have a good number of supporters in the county.
This is due to the fact that Dr Alfred Mutua is serving his second and last term in office as per the constitution
Winning the race will not be as easy as one could think. It will depend on how the competitors will sell their manifestos to Machakos people and convince them during campaigns. This is because many of them have experience in politics and they are believed to have knowledge on how to move crowd when campaigning despite any political wave that might be there.
Also, the political party used to vie for the seat will be a factor for anyone's success. The county is believed to be a Wiper party stronghold despite last year’s shock defeat to Governor Mutua’s Maendeleo Chap Chap party. This means that the party nominations both for Wiper and Maendeleo Chap Chap will be tough as many politicians will have to fight hard to get the party's ticket.
Among those who have shown their interest in the seat are former Kathiani MP Wavinya Ndeti, Mwala MP Vincent Musau, Machakos deputy governor Francis Maliti, Mavoko MP Patrick Makau and Bernard Kiala, the former Machakos deputy governor.
