The lawmakers, who spoke on Sunday at Kanyenyaini Catholic Church in Kangema, Murang'a County, said that they have no plans to use the handshake to endorse former Prime Minister Raila Odinga to rise to power in 2022.

The legislators pledged to defend Uhuru as he seeks to leave behind a legacy when his tenure ends.

The legislators are Ngunjiri Wambugu (Nyeri Town), Mercy Gakuya (Kasarani), Wangari Mwaniki (Kigumo) and Muturi Kigano (Kangema).

Wambugu faulted the Tangatanga group for spreading propaganda with the aim of ending the union between Uhuru and Raila. He reiterated that they pledged to stand with President Kenyatta and they have no plans to change their stand over the same.

The lawmaker said that they made it public that they believed in Uhuru's leadership and they don’t intend to change their tune any soon. The leaders divulged that they are waiting for the head of State to give them direction as far as 2022 is concerned.

He noted that they will remain loyal to him.

“During campaigns, we printed the President’s photo as the main one on posters while ours remained small. We told locals we would defend him in his tenure and that is what we are doing," he said

Wambugu also said that Uhuru later agreed to work with the leader of the handshake in the famous handshake, adding that they are fully behind the Building Bridges Initiative.

He also said that they have no plans of betraying Uhuru even if they end the handshake Raila. He further said that the nation has benefitted from the handshake while citing New KCC and Rivatex among other projects.
