Former Subukia Member of Parliament Koigi wa Wamwere has asked former Prime Minister Raila Odinga to retire from politics.
Speaking on Saturday, the veteran politician said that Raila's contribution to the country is enough, and he should now leave the field for others.
He warned the ODM leader against proceeding with his presidential bid, pointing out that he has taken enough shots at the top seat already.
According to Koigi, Raila is no longer likely to win the presidency, and should either abandon his bid, or suffer more defeats in future.
"Raila has tried but has been unable to get it and I don't see him getting it. He has done enough for the country and the more he tries the more unlikely he is to get it. (Raila amejaribu na hajapata, na sioni akipata. Amefanyia nchi kazi ya kutosha na akijaribu zaidi hatapata)," he said during an interview on Radio Sauti Ya Mwananchi's Cheche Show.
Similarly, the former MP called upon President Uhuru Kenyatta to not make any attempts to cling onto power after his retirement in 2022.
The same, he said, should apply to Deputy President William Ruto, who according to him, should not vie for the presidency but exit the scene for fresh leadership.
According to Koigi, Ruto should retire alongside Uhuru after their tenth year in office.
"If we want a safe country, let Uhuru and Ruto leave when done with their term. (Kama tunataka nchi salama, Uhuru akimaliza aende nyumbani na Ruto pia aende)," he added.
Raila, whose four presidential bids have all been futile, has remained silent on his 2022 plans. On the other hand, the DP has declared that he will be seeking to succeed Uhuru as president.
