Eliud Kipchoge clocked 1:59:40 to become the first human being to run a 42- kilometre marathon in less than two hours.

“I am very happy for Kipchoge since he has made our country proud. No one could have imagined that a person can run a marathon under two hours. Congratulations to Kipchoge,” said the veteran athlete.

Keino made the remarks while addressing journalists in Eldoret town on Saturday.

“I call on upcoming athletics to run clean and avoid using drugs since it will damage their careers. Let them run and win clean,” Keino added.

Keino is one of the most celebrated Kenyan track and field athletes who put the country on the world map in the 60s.

He won the men’s 1,500m gold medal at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico and another gold in the men’s 3,000m steeplechase in Munich Germany, four years later.

Athletic coach David Letting also congratulated Kipchoge for winning the race and proving that no human is limited.

President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga were among the first leaders to take to social media to congratulate Kipchonge for breaking the two-hour marathon barrier.
