Embakasi East MP Paul Ongili alias Babu Owino has claimed that should former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and Deputy President William Ruto compete in 2022, the contest will be like choosing between Jesus and the two thieves he was crucified along with.

In reference to an article by a local publication, Owino said the race between the two will end in Odinga's favour given his impeccable record in fighting for social justice.

"In the most likely scenario, Ruto will face Baba in 2022.This will be like choosing between Jesus & the thieves that were crucified with him.The people's President will triumph," he wrote.

On Saturday at Gem, Odinga gave a hint that he could have a fifth stab at presidency, insisting that the journey to Canaan is still on.

"You have seen me change tack. This is a strategy. There are several ways that can lead us to where our ambition is," he said.

"We will eventually get to Canaan, the land of plenty where our youth will get jobs, schools, health facilities, water, electricity and roads will not be a problem. That is where we seek to take the country," he added.

DP Ruto on the other side has intensified campaigns ahead of the 2022 race, with pundits saying he stands a good chance to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.

But despite preparations for 2022, the country is expected to have a referendum, which could propose a parliamentary system of government, a move opposed by a section of leaders allied to the DP.
