Chief Justice David Maraga's troubles are most likely a show of corruption in the country fighting back, city lawyer Ambrose Weda has said.
On Monday, the CJ, in a televised rant, said that he has been suffering in the hands of the executive, and has not been receiving the respect his office deserves.
He claimed that he has among others, been having to wait for longer than junior state officers to access state functions, and not being allowed to access the VIP airport sections.
Weda, on Wednesday, said that this is most likely a plot by some top state officials with graft cases to incapacitate the judiciary, and in turn manage to avoid the law.
"In my view, this is not about the Chief Justice, but corruption cases. They are trying to mix up the entire system so that things don't work," he said on KBC English Service.
He observed that part of the plan includes denying the judiciary money, wondering how then the state managed to secure Sh10 billion for the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) taskforce.
"The best way to cripple the Judiciary is by denying it money. Judiciary's budget is only Sh20 billion but the BBI, just a dancing team, has been given Sh10 billion," he added.
About the CJ's complains that some Cabinet Secretaries have been part of a plot to push him out of office, Weda called for sobriety among state officials.
He pointed out that while some ministers are very powerful now, their power depends on President Uhuru Kenyatta's stay in office, which is almost expiring, after which they will be out.
"I have also heard that some ministers want him out, but people should not behave as if they will always be there, Uhuru will leave power in the next two years," he added.
Maraga also cited discrimination, claiming that while he has been denied a Mercedes Benz 500, the government has procured the same for the Senate and National Assembly speakers.
