By the fact that Deputy President William Ruto has expressed his desire to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta, he should have done an honorable thing by resigning, Senator James Orengo has said.

Ruto has intensified his campaigns ahead of 2022 polls, even though President Uhuru Kenyatta has often warned that such campaigns could detract service delivery.

In reference to former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Orengo, who appeared at KTN on Wednesday, said the DP should resign from the government and concentrate on campaigns.

“Ruto should not be speaking from the sidelines because he is in Government. If I were Ruto, I would do the honorable thing by resigning.”

Ruto has often contradicted Uhuru's stand on critical issues, top among them the fight against corruption. According to him, the war targets his close allies.

The Senate Minority Leader also claimed that the cabinet as constituted is divided, adding that President Uhuru Kenyatta should take responsibility and sack those derailing his agenda.

“To bring sense in the management of Government, the President should dismiss and reconstitute the Cabinet,” said Orengo.

The cabinet is dysfunctional. They are throwing stones at each other. The current one cannot work together to achieve the Government’s agenda,” he claimed without detailing the nature of alleged divisions.

The DP has often dismissed his critics, arguing that traversing the country is in compliance with his mandate as principal deputy to President Uhuru Kenyatta.
