In a letter dated January 2, 2020, MCAs formalised his ouster by writing to Speaker Moffat Teya, whom they asked to note the changes.

Majority Deputy Whip Lilian Nyamweya on Thursday said the changes had been communicated to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) office.

But on Friday, the Township ward MCA dismissed the ouster as "usual noise" that will not hinder him from executing his mandate.

"Those are just normal noise. I am still your Majority Leader and I am going nowhere. I won't quit any time soon," Masira told reporters on Friday.

Mr Masira is a key ally of Kisii Governor John Nyagarama and ODM leader Raila Odinga. He has been pushing for the implementation of the BBI report.

"The ODM party does not know such changes and my supporters should not worry. The status quo remains and that is an assurance," Masira added.

At least 11 of the 21 NASA MCAs signed the ouster bid, garnering the simple majority as required by the law in making such changes.

Former Majority Leader Raban Masira was picked by the plotters as the new county assembly boss. He also confirmed the changes.

"I can just say the process has been concluded. We have new leadership in the assembly. That's the true picture," Raban, who is also the Nyamaiya ward MCA, said on Wednesday.
