Suba South Member of Parliament John Mbadi has emphasised on the need to have a Kibra insider taking charge of the constituency.
Speaking on Tuesday after Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party candidate Imran Okoth was cleared by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), Mbadi said Kibra was not a playground for socialites.
He argued that the constituency should be left to people who stay there, and have a keen understanding of issues that its residents are grappling with.
"Kibra is not a place for socialites. It is not a place for people to come and test themselves in leadership. It is for people who come from that constituency who understand the problems of the people of Kibra" the outspoken ODM legislator said.
Imran, trounced nine other aspirants to win ODM party's nomination exercise, and was on Tuesday issued with the nomination certificate by veteran opposition leader Raila Odinga who is the party leader.
The seat fell vacant after the death of late former Member of Parliament Ken Okoth who succumbed to cancer.
Imran is expected to use his links and experience as a CDF manager in Kibra as a campaign tactic.
Jubilee party candidate McDonald Mariga whose candidature now hangs in the balance after disqualification by the IEBC, has faced criticism for reportedly being an outsider.
