A report by the Somalia government reveals that more territories were recovered from Al-Shabaab in 2019, leaving the militia with nowhere to escape to
In a video shared on Twitter Saturday by AMISOM, Somalia Minister for Information, Mohamed Abdi Hayir, explained how soldiers working under AMISOM were determined to flash the terrorist out of Somalia.
"2019 saw the #Somali National Army together with #AMISOM recover more territory from the terrorists. These operations continue. As @MOISOMALIA Minister Mohamed Abdi Hayir explains, peace is in sight with a stronger national army. #SomaliaGains2019 #SomG19," AMISOM captioned the short video report.
The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) is among the African troops that have been in Somalia under AMISOM for years, with an aim of restoring peace in Somalia and majorly ensuring disturbances caused by Al-Shabaab is brought to an end.
Mohamed Abdi Hayir said that Al-Shabaab has limited hideouts after the soldiers managed to flash them from their previous territories.
He noted that Al-Shabaab are currently troubled with no escape route and soon they will be a forgotten militia.
Hayir added that Somalia people have once again developed confidence in their army after recording major success in 2019.
"We have registered major victories in the fight against terrorism. We have liberated many towns from the grip of terror and above all, we managed to restore people's confidence in the army as well as in the army itself," he stated.
