University don Wandia Njoya has asked popular rapper Kennedy Ombima alias King Kaka not to be worried after Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru threatened to sue him.
This is after the rapper mentioned and linked her to the National Youth Service (NYS) multi-billion scandal in his latest song 'Wajinga Nyinyi'.
The governor asked the musician to delete the viral song from the internet and issue an apology in writing, failure to which she will take him to court citing defamation.
Njoya encouraged Kaka not to be troubled by the threats, and outlined various arguments he can use to defend himself in the court.
"King Kaka, please do not cave in. If this reaches court, tell your lawyers to use the cases on artistic license. Your song is an interpretive work. It is not a journalism piece where the audience is supposed to take the content as factual," she tweeted on Monday.
Njoya, a lecturer at Daystar University, said Kaka has an option of suing Waiguru on grounds she was using the justice system to abuse his rights as an artist.
"If anything, you should counter sue her for using the courts to abuse your artistic and creative freedom which is enshrined in the constitution," she said.
The lecturer, who holds PhD in French and African Literature, said the 'Wajinga Nyinyi' hit maker can also cite the IPSOS Synovate poll which ranked Waiguru as the second most corrupt person as perceived by Kenyans in his defence.
"Damage to Waiguru's reputation can therefore not come from an artistic piece. You were interpreting the mood of the country, and her reputation is all over the media. There is even an IPSOS poll showing what Kenyans think of her," she tweeted.
"We artists are behind you. We cannot let this country continue to be intellectually imprisoned by the elites," Njoya added.
