Kisumu Governor Anyang' Nyong'o now wants the government to implement the construction of a proposed dam at the border of Kisumu and Kericho counties.
He says that almost four years after the awarding of the tender, no job has been done, with his constituents suffering from water shortage yet there is water to feed the dam.
He now wants the relevant state department to take up the matter and resolve any issues that could be delaying the contractor, so that the job can commence next years.
“If the dam is built, we will have no water shortage or floods in Kisumu,” he charged.
The Soin-Koru Dam is to be built at a cost of Sh24 billion.
Details indicate that the delay could have something to do with the quoted construction cost, with engineers terming it double the required amount.
The implementation of the dam has also been reportedly discussed by the Cabinet National Development Implementation and Communication Committee thrice.
The governor now wants the committee to approve the construction quickly, noting that the dam's services are very much needed.
"We cannot continue to suffer and yet we have a solution to our water problems. Matters occasioning the delay must be resolved, even if it means going to court,” he further states.
Once complete, the dam is set to supply parts of Kisumu and Kericho County.
