Women who experience heavy menstrual flow tend to soak their pads or tampons so quickly.
This makes them uncomfortable and some try doubling the protection to secure some comfort.
It is possible to get back to your regular or normal cycle by doing the following:
1. Taking foods rich in Vitamin C and iron
Heavy periods can result in anaemia. To lower this, it is important to consume foods that are rich in Vitamin C and iron.
Vitamin C helps your body absorb the iron in your diet to your bloodstream thereby increasing the production of red blood cells. Such foods are; red and green peppers, tomatoes, broccoli and citrus fruits including oranges.
2. Taking progesterone tablets
Tablets containing progesterone hormone have been found to reduce heavy flow. This is because they reduce the growth of uterine wall thus lessening the bleeding during menstruation. Taking them between the 7th and 21st day of the cycle is recommended.
3. Taking antifibrinolytics
Your heavy flow could have been as a result of fibroids. To help treat that flow, medication with anti-fibroid properties will help you out. However, it is important to consult your doctor who will advise you on the same.
One of these is Tranexamic acid that works to reduce the breakdown of blood clots and thus reducing prolonged bleeding during menstruation.
