The proposed constitutional changes will not solve the country's recurrent problem of post election wrangles, Gilgil Member of Parliament Martha Wangare has said.
She on Wednesday night said that unless leaders embrace good political manners, there will always be people coming out to contest presidential elections outcome after every poll.
In an apparent reference to ODM leader Raila Odinga, who has blamed three of his four presidential race losses on rigging, the lawmaker said that unless people start accepting defeat, there will always be wrangles after elections.
"Even if we amend the constitution it will not make the perennial losers accept defeat. People must abandon their bad manners and accept defeat (Hata tukibadilisha katiba haitafanya wale huwa hawakubali kushindwa uchaguzi wakubali. Lazima watu waache bad manners na wakubali kushindwa," she said on Radio Jambo.
Wangare also faulted those arguing that an expanded executive will make all Kenyans feel included, arguing that it can only accommodate leaders from a few of the Kenyan communities.
She also pointed out that this will not be the first time Kenya is having an expanded executive, after the grand coalition government (2008-2013), where exclusion was still seen.
The MP noted that tbe solution lies in readiness by leaders to accept the outcome of elections and not making changes to satisfy leaders.
"Even if we expand the executive not everyone can fit in there. Haven't we had the positions of Prime Minister and deputies yet we still had issues? (Hata tukipanua uongozi haitatosha watu wote, si tumekuwa na Prime Minister na Deputies na bado tulikuwa shida?)," she posed.
Among the forces pushing for the constitutional changes is Raila, who has, however, noted that it hsd nothing to done with his individual political goals.
