Nominated MP David Sankok over the weekend asked ODM leader Raila Odinga to stop bothering Deputy President William Ruto given his nature of donating funds to churches.
Mr Odinga, who had attended the memorial service for Hassan Ole Kamwaro, accused unnamed leaders of donating millions to churches in sacks.
"The country loses close to Sh800 billion to corruption. Some people carry millions to churches in sacks. This money can help the country implement several projects," he said.
For months, Mr Odinga has been accusing Deputy President William Ruto of using alleged graft money to donate to churches, arguing that he was promoting corruption.
But Sankok, a close ally of Dr Ruto, accused Mr Odinga of being anti-development, adding that he should also consider carrying money in wallets or paper bags to church.
"I thank Mr Odinga for coming to mourn Kamwaro. He has no moral authority to tell us that some of us are coming to churches and donating money in sacks," he said in reference to Ruto.
"Nobody has blocked him. He can also donate in wallets or paper bags. Let us respect one another. You cannot tell us to stop helping churches and schools," he added.
ODM party through Suba South MP John Mbadi had proposed a bill to cap the maximum amount leaders should contribute to churches, a move that has been opposed by Ruto.
In his recent rallies, Dr Ruto claimed that Mr Odinga needs prayers, adding that such attitude was not necessary. He vowed to continue helping churches.
