Uasin Gishu county governor Jackson Mandago is serving his second term which comes to end in 2022.
The Kenyan constitution will not allow him to run for another term thereafter.
This implies therefore that the governor will be having a number of other options to consider, after missing out in the gubernatorial race.
One of the options he would take is to exit from active politics altogether. He would then move to his home to engage in other activities like farming or business.
While in retirement, he could decide to campaign for Dp Ruto who will be seeking to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.
In the past, he vowed to ensure that DP's detractors do not sabotage his (William Ruto's) chances of ascending to the presidency.
"We will have our meeting and also name also those involved in the plan to sabotage Ruto politically,” said Mandago in the past as quoted by the Star.
Mandago can choose to run for Uasin Gishu senatorial seat after a number of residents and leaders from the county, including Ainabkoi MP William Chepkut urged him to make the move.
"I want to call on our abled governor Jackson Mandago to rethink his position and vie for Uasin Gishu senatorial post come 2022 so that he may continue serving the electorates. The people of Ainabkoi have asked me to tell you to go for the seat when your term comes to an end, "Chepkut once told Mandago.
The outspoken governor can as well lobby to appointed into the next national government, as a cabinet secretary, principal secretary or any other post.
