Blogger Robert Alai has now threatened to sue Cabinet Secretary for Transport James Macharia over alleged blocking on Twitter.
According to Alai, public servants should not deny citizens to access their social media accounts.
He has warned that CS Macharia should either resign or face the law.
''Someone tell @JamesMacharia_ to unblock me or he resign from the Cabinet. I will sue him for blocking me because as a public official, he HAS NO RIGHT to block me. I will teach him what happens to arrogant public officials online,'' tweeted Alai on Tuesday.
If Alai's makes good his threat, CS Macharia risks being fined up to Sh1 million or imprisoned for three years or both because blocking of citizens by government officials and State departments is a violation of the Access to Information Act 2016.
Section 4 of the Access to Information Act 2016 notes state officials who deny citizens access to their platforms are committing an offence.
“Any person who knowingly discloses exempt information in contravention of this Act commits an offence and is liable, on conviction, to a fine not exceeding one million shillings, or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding three years, or both,” states part of the Act, as quoted by the Standard.
