Jaramogi Oginga Odinga was a Kenyan leader, who fought for independence in Kenya. He was born in the year 1911 and died 1994 January. However many stories surround him when he was actively involved in politics.
In 1962 January, clothes of Oginga Odinga were stolen while he was in Kisumu. Angry Jaramogi ordered his personal assistant Wilson Ndolo Ayah to follow up the matter and ensure the thieves are brought to book.
Ndolo, an alumna of Makerere University who later blossomed from personal assistant to a Foreign minister during Moi’s tenure, did investigations which led to the arrest of two people; Raphael Owino and Ochieng Oburu. Ndolo took the two to the KANU youth leader of Kisumu wing Ochola Achola.
As the interrogations were on, on 11th that month, paraffin was poured onto the two and match stick lit and hurled on them. They were burnt severely and were taken to hospital for medication and to nurse the burn bruises. This ruined Oginga's name so much during that time. As reports indicated from CID Ochola Achola and his six other friends were arrested: Oduog Amadi, Okuju Ojuok, Ogenda Onyango, William Chore, Peter Opondo, Pitalis Ondere.
Amadi was sentenced to seven years in prison with 18 strokes of canes. Ogenda and William were sentenced to seven years jail with 13 strokes of cane each. While the other three were remanded.
