Veteran politician Koigi Wa Wamwere has said that Deputy President William Ruto has changed his stand on the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report because it retains the position of a powerful President.

In a Facebook post on Sunday, Wamwere said that Ruto was opposed to the report until he read the content.

He argued that Ruto wants to be President and is ready for the same because the report has not watered down the position as he thought in the first place.

“It is important to note that people who have been advocating constitutional changes are Raila and Uhuru and not Ruto who feels quite comfortable with the 2010 constitution as it is. And though Ruto has been opposed to BBI, he now supports BBI because the BBI president is exactly what president Ruto would like to be – a dictator, "he argues.

The politician also alluded that the report will not solve some of the pressing issues in the country. He said that cases such as graft, unemployment and terror attacks will not be dealt away with through the implementation of the report as suggested.

“BBI will never be a conception of the people. It would never unite Kenyan communities without nationalism. BBI will never be a champion of people’s interests. It will never be an arch enemy of negative ethnicity. BBI will never unite Ruto and Raila because interests of Uhuru dictate their division. Having born BBI, BBI cannot eliminate its mother negative ethnicity. BBI will not take us far," he added.

DP Ruto now wants the report implemented as soon as possible to pave the way for initiation and completion of development projects across the country.
