Wajir Woman Representative Fatuma Gedi insists that she was punched twice by her colleague during a scuffle at Parliament building.
At Milimani Law Courts on Tuesday, Gedi said she was beaten by Wajir East MP Rashid Kassim, who accused her of not allocating money for his constituency.
Gedi sits in the Budget and Appropriation Committee. The team had visited Wajir to assess the need before 2019/20 allocations.
During the scuffle, Gedi suffered injuries, a move that precipitated condemnation by a section of female politicians who called for his prosecution.
He was arrested and detained at Parliament building for hours before being taken to court. He was released on Sh50,000 cash bail.
Tuesday's hearing marks yet the beginning of another long court process which would see a number of witnesses mostly Parliamentarians testifying.
At the court, handful supporters of Gedi donned in white shirts written "Justice for Gedi, women must be respected". The hearing is still on.
The firebrand Woman Representative has been championing for Handshake and is currently working with the Kieleweke faction.
