A 29-year old youth from Manyatta slums in Kisumu County now wants to contest for the area MCA seat.
He says he wants to change the livelihoods of the area residents.
Joachim Oketch Omieno told this writer that he wants to challenge Kondele Ward's Gabriel Ochieng for the seat in the coming 2017 general election.
Oketch popularly known in the neighbourhood as ‘Swaga’ has his original home in Homa Bay but has been a resident of Kisumu for more than 15 years.
He is currently an accountant with the Coca Cola company and says he wants to change the lives of people in Kondele.
He stated that his candidature will inject in fresh and energetic leadership that will transform the ward.
“I am here to knock doors for the people to ensure that their dreams are realised,” said Oketch.
He said that having stayed in the slums for many years, he understands better and knows what the residents need from access to water, employment and eradication of poverty.
