Starehe Member of Parliament Charles Njagua popularly known as Jaguar spoke out on Wednesday evening after his arrest, contradicting what he had said earlier about foreign traders.
In a tweet, Jaguar claimed that his sentiments were misinterpreted. He pointed out that foreigner traders are welcomed in the country to do business peacefully.
"My recent sentiments over the invading of our market by foreigners have been greatly misinterpreted. I mean peace for the country and businesses should go on uninterrupted and all foreigners are welcome to our country," he said.
This comes just hours after being arrested by the detectives from the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) at the Parliament Building.
According to the DCI, Jaguar was taken in to answer to his "xenophobic" utterance on Monday.
On Monday, the first time legislator had given the government 24 hours to deport all foreigners doing business in his constituency especially at Gikomba or else he will kick them out himself.
His utterance caused a storm in the country and even in the neighboring country Tanzania, where Kenyan ambassador to Tanzania Dan Kazungu was summoned by the Tanzanian government.
"Ukiangalia masoko zetu, waTanzania na waUganda wamechukua biashara zetu. Sasa sisi tumesema enough is enough. Kama tukiwapea masaa ishirini na nne hawatatolewa hapa. Sisi tutawatoa, na tutawapiga na hatutaogopa mtu," he said.
This loosely transales to: "When you look at our markets, Tanzanians and Ugandians have taken over our businesses. Now we have given the government 24 hours to deport them failure of which we will remove them, beat them and we fear no one."
