Broadway bakery's directors, for instance, donated up to Sh25,000 for like six learners among the list. Among beneficiaries was George Wanjohi, who despite having scored 407 marks, his mother was unable to cater for his fee.
"I am glad someone read this story and was touched. I took him to school and he had nothing. Even the mattress he is sleeping on was donated by the school," Evangeline Wanjiru, mother to Wanjohi said.
Other samaritans included Kevin Kipyegon, Trevor Macharia as well as Isaac Keithi who volunteered to fund Shadrack Mithambo, though Standard later learnt that Mithambo got another sponsor.
Other individuals sought to have contact information for the needy students pledging to keep in touch and settle the arrears directly with the learners' intended schools.
One of the well Kumar Sheth noted, "Let's do what we can to have a better country in the future." However, other pupils whose plight was yet to be heard still kept their hopes high about joining secondary too.
Reporting duration was extended to January 24, 2019, after the January 17 deadline. "In order to ensure no learner is left behind, the ministry has made a decision to extend the reporting deadline," noted Education PS Belio Kipsang through a circular.
