Mudavadi said he has a track record in fighting graft and vowed to make Kenya a corruption-free nation if elected as president in 2022.

“We will deal with impunity and trust me to fight corruption and impunity. I have done it before, I have a track record,” he said

Mudavdi made the remarks on Friday when he addressed Kenyans living in the US at a function held in Springfield, Massachusetts.

Mudavadi revisited the Goldenberg scandal claiming he was the one who 'killed' it when he was appointed Finance Minister by retired President Daniel Arap Moi.

“The person who stopped Goldenberg is me. I was 29. There were fictitious claims in a scheme known as export compensation. When I went in, I realised it was a fraud.”

“I had to sign off and close all those banks in order to shut theft of Kenyan money. People say I was part of Goldenberg, no! I killed it. When I was in government there was a commission of inquiry and for three years the person who stopped Goldenberg was subjected to inquiry,” he said.

The ANC boss said he will increase budgetary allocations to independent offices mandated to fight corruption such as the Judiciary to ensure the war is won.

“Allocations going to these institutions in my government will be adequate to allow them fight corruption. I will make decisions work,” he pledged.

Mudavadi has been touring various cities in the USA to campaign for his State House bid in the last few days.

He is accompanied by MPs Alfred Agoi (Sabatia) and Nambale's Bunyasi Sakwa. Also on the delegation is former Lamu Governor Issa Timamy and ANC Secretary-General Barrack Muluka.
