The Governor said after her meeting with the former Prime Minister in November last year, they have maintained close relations following years of adverse political differences.

Waiguru visited Raila's private offices at Capitol Hill in Nairobi on November 14, 2018 where they buried the hatchet and pledged to forge a new friendship.

She also dropped a defamation case she had sued the ODM boss for linking her to the loss of Sh791 million from the National Youth Service (NYS) during her tenure as Devolution Cabinet Secretary.

"We had a history with Raila Odinga that we needed to settle. That we did! Raila is my friend and political ally," she said explaining why she withdrew the case which had attracted a lot of media attention.

Speaking during Pointblank show on KTN, Waiguru said her handshake with Raila was not about succession politics, but was in the spirit of March 9, 2018 unity pact between President Uhuru Kenyatta and his former political nemesis.

"I needed to let Raila Odinga know that I support his handshake with President Uhuru Kenyatta," she said on Wednesday night.

Raila was one of the guests during Waiguru's traditional wedding with city lawyer Kamotho Waiganjo late last month.

Following their talks at his Capitol Hill office last year, the former Prime Minister said they agreed to 'let by-gones be by-gones'.

“We’ve agreed to leave the matter of the NYS scandal in the hands of investigators. She (Waiguru) said her case against me is now settled in the spirit of reconciliation that the nation has embarked on,” Raila said at that time.
