In an interview with Nation on Monday,  Duale said that he supports the idea of Members of Parliament electing the President of this nation.

He, however, said that he does not back the push for a referendum because he believes it is not only a waste of time but also resources.

He divulged that Kenya's economic position does not allow for another constitutional review as rooted by different leaders.

Duale said that the leaders pushing for a referendum should reconsider the idea before it is too late.

“I cannot advocate for a referendum because it will lead to divisive campaigns that will derail President Kenyatta’s legacy projects,” he said in his office.

Duale also said that it will not cost the nation much of the leaders can come to a consensus over the election of the President.

He said that another constitutional change will make it hard for President Uhuru Kenyatta to complete his second term in office.

“It will be cheaper and safer to develop consensus on the issue and make it easy for the President to complete and deliver on his promises to the people,” he said.
