Nyamira Senator Okong'o Omogeni has appealed to politicians irrespective of their political affiliations to respect and tolerate one another.
The vocal senator urged leaders from Gusii community to be united, speak in one voice to push for development in the region.
"I take this opportunity to urge political leaders in Kisii and Nyamira county to join hands and work together for the sake of realizing development. We were all elected to serve the interests of the electorates but not causing divisions among voters," he said.
The senator who is serving his first term in office, maintained that the Gusii community has all it takes to produce a president, arguing that presidency does not belong to only one or two tribes.
He said Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i should not listen to critics but focus on service delivery to the people of Kenya.
"I'm aware a section of leaders in Nyamira and Kisii counties are not happy with Matiang'i's good work but, I want to reiterate that Matiang'i should not listen to critics.
"Tolerance in politics is necessary and therefore, a leaders from the vote rich community we must remain united irrespective of the political parties we support," he added.
He was speaking on Monday in Nyamira town.
