Former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo now says it will be next to impossible for his successor Ferdinand Waititu to resign.
Waititu has come under intense pressure to step aside after he was arrested and prosecuted over a Sh588 million corruption case that also involves his wife Susan Wangari and other county officials.
On Tuesday a Nairobi Anti Corruption court released the county boss on a Sh30 million bond or an alternative cash bail of Sh15 million and ordered him not to step in his office until the case is finalised.
Following the development, various people have called on Waititu to quit, arguing it would be very hard for him to discharge his constitutional mandate as a governor away from the office.
"It’s not enough for Kiambu Governor Waititu to be barred from office. He must resign," tweeted Kenyan US-based lawyer Prof Makau Mutua.
Reacting to the remarks and using a metaphor, Kabogo said it would be beyond the bounds of possibility to expect Waititu to renounce his seat.
"That’s the day (we) will find cats queuing at the dairy plant waiting to deliver milk," he said in a tweet on Tuesday.
In the meantime, Deputy Governor James Nyoro has announced that he has taken over the management of the county affairs following Waititu's predicament.
“I am now in charge and the CECs and all county officials are ready to work with me. At this point, we are not talking about making changes, but we will work together as a team,” Nyoro said as quoted by Capital News.
