Three people, among them two police officers died on Saturday night after the vehicle they were travelling on was involved in an accident along the Naivasha-Nakuru Highway.
Two died on the spot after their vehicle rammed into a stationary lorry near Kikopey, in Gilgil, on Saturday night, while the other victim, a civilian, died at the hospital.
The incident was confirmed Gilgil sub-county police commander Emanuel Opuru
He said that the third person died while being treated at a hospital in Nakuru Town, adding that the lorry had hit another vehicle in the same spot, resulting in it stalling on the road.
The police boss said that the driver of the private vehicle was most likely not seeing the lorry before he drove into it.
"It seems the driver of the saloon car did not have a clear view of a stationary lorry that had stopped in the middle of the road following another accident," he said.
According to colleagues of the officers, both of whom were stationed at the Gilgil AP offices, the two had spent their day with them before deciding to take the ride.
"It unbelievable, we were within the two officers a few hours earlier before they decided to take a drive," said one of their colleagues.
The bodies of the three are being preserved at the Gilgil Sub County Hospital Mortuary.
