A section of Members of County Assembly (MCAs) in Nairobi has set a plan in motion to impeach Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko.
This comes shortly after the governor was barred by the court from accessing his office at the City Hall.
Reports from Nation indicate that a section of the MCAs held a meeting on Saturday in which they agreed to appeal for a special sitting where they will discuss an impeachment motion.
The MCAs had previously met on Friday at Windsor Hotel where they discussed the state of Nairobi County.
Minority Chief Whip Peter Imwatok, however, revealed that a number of MCAs from the Jubilee party were supporting Sonko.
“Sonko’s problem is neither Nairobi’s nor the county assembly’s even though some Jubilee MCAs want it to be so,” Imwatok stated as quoted by Nation.
He said the MCAs had already sent a letter to Nairobi County Assembly speaker Beatrice Elachi requesting for a special sitting.
The ODM MCA further pointed out that the collection of 82 signatures from Nairobi MCAs, which are required to start an impeachment process, will start on Monday.
“Next week will not be business as usual. As ODM and like-minded Jubilee MCAs, we are not going to worship Sonko while Nairobi is failing. Sonko cannot run Nairobi County as a private entity,” he noted.
According to the Minority Chief Whip, Sonko ignored the advice to nominate a deputy governor.
