A 13-year-old boy died on the spot after he was electrocuted at Egetacho village in Nyamira County.
While confirming the Tuesday incident, Nyamira County Commissioner Amos Mariba said the deceased identified as Zablon Nyamonge was cutting down tree branches when he met his death.
"The deceased was cutting tree branches when one of the branches touched the electricity wires. He got electrocuted as he tried to pull the branch from the electricity wires," said Mariba.
The county police boss said residents' efforts to save the deceased life did not yield fruits since he died on spot.
"Members of the public rushed to the scene and rushed him to Nyamira county hospital but unfortunately the medics confirmed that he had already died. It is a sad incident to lose the young boy," he stated.
The commissioner said the body of the deceased was moved to Nyamira county hospital morgue.
He assured that police officers with the help of Kenya Power and Lightening Company (KPLC) have launched probe into the death.
Mariba appealed to residents to stop planting trees where electricity wires pass to avoid similar deaths in future and challenged KPLC officers to ensure trees near electricity poles and wires are cut down.
