The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), has urged all road users to be alert, and adhere to traffic rules while travelling this festive season.
KeNHA’s Assistant Director for Corporate Communications Charles Njogu on Sunday said over the years, the number of Kenyans losing their lives to road accidents has been on the rise, especially during the festive season.
He noted that the authority has put in place measures to ensure all those who break traffic rules are arrested and charged accordingly.
"I urge all motorists and road users to exercise extra vigilance during the festive period. Every life on our roads counts and must be protected at all costs. Motorists are encouraged to be patient, extra vigilant and courteous to other road users,” Njogu said.
This comes after Inspector-General of Police Hillary Mutyambai directed all traffic police officers, to be swift in arresting those found guilty of violating traffic rules.
Meanwhile, long queues have been witnessed across several bus stations in the country, with most Kenyans travelling to rural areas to celebrate the festive season together with their families.
A spot check on several online bus booking platforms indicated that most buses were fully booked until 27th December.
