Dr Scholastica Kimani on Tuesday narrated how Njue left with Mr Benedict Karau's heart and kidney after a pathological test at the Meru Level Four Hospital in March 2015.

Ms Kimani who was among the doctors who attended the postmortem session told Meru Senior Resident Magistrate Evans Mbicha that the test had been ordered by Martha Gakou, the wife of the deceased.

She also told the court that Njue, who has since been charged with the theft, insisted that the 70-year-old succumbed to a heart attack caused by a clot in one of the arteries, despite there being visible injuries in his head.

It was after the deceased was exhumed for a second autopsy that the organs were discovered missing, but Njue kept postponing returning the parts which he said would be used for a histology.

Ms Kimani said that she made numerous demands that he brings the organs.

The prosecution has listed seven witnesses for the case.

However, it on Tuesday rejected Ms Gakou's request to have her lawyer enjoined in the case, saying that she had not shown interest in the case

The inquest set to continue on August 1.

The family believes that the theft of the parts might have been a scheme to hide the cause of the death, reports the Nation.
