The Bungoma senator has insisted that he will be in the presidential race in 2022, even with pressure from a section of Western Kenya leaders to have him unite with Musalia Mudavadi.

Wetangula, who served as Foreign Affairs minister during the Grand Coalition government, endorsed ODM leader Raila Odinga in 2013 and 2017.

Kanduyi MP Wafula Wamunyinyi on Friday in Nyamira asked Kenyans to endorse Wetangula, arguing that he will neutralise tribal antagonism in the country.

"The nation needs sober leaders and Wetangula is one of them. The country should get ready for his leadership. I am sure that he will be out fifth president," he said at a funeral in Bogichora.

"All we need to have is looking for partners who can help us realise the dream. And for sure, this is what we are doing and that's why we are moving around."

West Mugirango MP Vincent Kemosi said Ford Kenya will field candidates across the country as it seeks to reign it's dwindling fortunes in the country.

"We shall strengthen the party as we campaign. We have a formidable candidate and we shall ensure that we are in the race to win," he said.

The Ford Kenya party was formed by Jaramogi Oginga Odinga in 1992 and dominated Kenya's opposition politics until 2003 when Kijana Wamalwa died.

Mr Wetangula will now have to face a strong team leaning towards Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i in Gusii as he seeks for support from over 1 million voters from the region.
