A social media user had raised concern over the future of the students under the programs which had allegedly been cancelled.

Prof Mbeche in response explained that the university had not cancelled the self-sponsored programs as it was being reported.

He pointed out that the programs will continue as usual hence the students will not be affected.

The VC clarified that only the unit that is responsible for collecting the fees had been merged with the finance department of the university.

"Davidson, Self-Sponsored programs at the University of Nairobi haven't been scrapped. Programs will continue normally. Only the unit that does fees collection, CESSP, has been absorbed into UoN Finance Department. It will no longer be separate department as it was previously," Prof Mbeche's statement on Twitter read.

In a letter which was released on Monday, the university management said that it was re-assigning the staff working in the unit of Centre for Self-Sponsored Programmes (CESSP) to other duties.

This led to the belief that the university may have cancelled the self-sponsored programs.

“All staff under the Centre for Self-Sponsored Programmes (CESSP) will be humanely re-deployed into the mainstream services of the University and be assigned duties and responsibilities in line with their training,” the letter read.
