Murang'a County Senator Irungu Kang'ata has come out to explain how he stopped a fracas from brewing between the police and Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro's supporters on 9th September 2019.

Officers from the General service unit had been deployed to arrest Nyoro who was accused of disrupting a church event in his constituency.

The tension was high as his supporters camped waiting to cause a melee in case their legislator was arrested.

The officers in full anti-riot gear, armed with guns clubs and teargas we're ready for 'war' since the MP's supporters had shown resistance by 'snatching' the mp from the grip of officers who had come to arrest him at Gitui catholic church.

The Senator said that he knew very well of chaos erupted a lot of people would be injured, so he begged the officers to allow him to bring Nyoro to them peacefully.

He told the officers that the MP and his supporters were willing to cooperate.

Kang'ata who doubles up as a lawyer entered the St.James ACK church where the MP was being interviewed and took him to the police.

"I did all that I could to save the situation because I realized that if the supporters tried to restrain officers from treating the MP, there would have been many casualties," Kang'ata told the Nation.

"I also didn't want the MP to be arrested in an embarrassing manner," he added.

Kang'ata and Nyoro's friendship go way back when he was the MP for Kiharu in 2013.

Nyoro served as the CDF chairman and also was the election campaigns that saw Kang'ata elected as MP in 2013.
