Speaking on Thursday at the Supreme Court, the Head of State lashed out at government officials engaging in extravagant use of public funds.

He wondered why government offices would set aside money to buy newspapers for its occupants, saying that he buys newspapers from his own pocket.

“…We need to think outside the box to utilize the resources we have…In one circular, we have said we do not have to buy three newspapers for individuals..Please buy yours, I also buy mine. (Jameni nunua yako hata mimi nanunua yangu)…Why can’t we use School of Government instead of hotels?” the Head of State posed.

President Kenyatta's administration has been faced with massive cases of misappropriation of State resources.

Over the past seven years, a number of top government officials have been fired, and others charged in courts over plundering of government resources.

The president has been very vocal on the use of State resources, and has previously made it clear that he is keen to leave a graft-free country in 2022, when he vacates office.
