The second liberation fighter on Monday said that he is ready to take over the limping opposition and lead it to prosperity, now that it appears abandoned.

He said that if Kenyans are willing to rally behind him in keeping the government in check, then he would be more than ready to serve Kenyans in that capacity.

The former Subukia MP said that the country badly needs a strong opposition following ODM leader Raila Odinga's handshake with President Uhuru Kenyatta on March 9, 2018.

"I agree, if Kenyans want that we will arrange. If they want me to be a Joshua I will because we need a Joshua (Nakubali, kama Wakenya wanataka tuwe hivyo tutapanga. Mimi wakitaka niwe Joshua nitakuwa, maana tunahitaji Joshua," he said.

He made the remarks on Radio Sauti Ya Mwananchi's Kero Nyeti show on Monday morning, after being asked if he is still willing to serve Kenyans.

Wamwere is known for his anti-government stands, which saw him spend years in prison for questioning Mzee Jomo Kenyatta's leadership.

He spent nine more years in prison during Daniel Moi's tenure over the same, and is widely considered one of the forces that helped realise the push for democracy.
