Kiambaa MP Paul Koinange on Wednesday called for a national conference to discuss ways of ending corruption in the country.
Speaking to journalists in Kiambaa town, Koinange said graft is a national disaster and it should be fought by everyone.
He said the opposition and the government should come together and look for a way forward in fighting graft instead of holding rallies and exchanging words on corruption allegations which do not help fight the vice.
Koinange said it is embarrassing for the country to be struggling economically and be ranked as the fourth corrupt country globally.
The lawmaker said Kenyans involved in corruption should be prosecuted and charged accordingly whether in government or not.
He said it isn't about the position of the individual in society but about the crime they have committed.
"We have to fight graft as a nation and not hide or protect suspects of crime. Whether in Jubilee or Cord they should be prosecuted. The fight should start with us, leaders coming together and fighting the vice among us and the nation will join," said Koinange.
He said if leaders protect others in the name that they are politicians or in government, the nation cannot change on this vice.
He called on dialogue to be able to help in the fight against corruption.
The MP said if the opposition sees any suspicious acts in government, it should be listened to and investigations conducted and not just rubbished off because they are the opposition.
