An unknown number of its customers purchased their monthly data and calls plan for free after what is suspected to be a case of system malfunction.

Platinum Bundles plan is a Safaricom lifestyle-driven monthly service offering its customers a superior service through its worry-free monthly integrated plan for between Sh2,000 and Sh10,000.

In Friday's system malfunction for the telco, quite a number of Safaricom customers got this free offer before the platinum bundle plan under bonga points payment was blocked.

The company later warned those who had purchased the plan, saying that the purchase was illegal and would recover it from their M-Pesa.

"Dear customer, it has come to our attention that you purchased the platinum plan illegally due to a system malfunction at our headquarters. Kindly visit our safaricom outlet. The platinum data you purchased illegally shall be deducted from your M-pesa account," read a Safaricom text sent after the glitch.
