20-year-old Kiprop Collins who scored a straight A with 81 points in the 2013 KSCE exams has opted to work as a farm hand in Nandi County after his dreams of becoming a doctor were shattered.
Kiprop got an admission letter to join the Technical University of Mombasa (TUM), to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Marine Resources Management.
He, however, declined the offer as his dream has always been pursuing a course in medicine.
He said there was no point of joining TUM and studying something he has no interest in, and end up wasting four years in the institution.
"My preference forte was biology and maths. My heart warmed up for medicine because I always desired to make a difference in society since I hated to see people suffering or falling sick," he said.
According to Standard Digital, the boy's attempt to convince the University to allow him pursue a course on Medicine is yet to bear fruits.
"Most people might think failing to join TUM was a misinformed decision but I am optimistic that one day I will get an opportunity to pursue my dream career,” said Kiprop.
Elizabeth Koskei, Kiprop's employer described the 20-year-old as a bright boy and urged well wishers to assist him pursue his dream.
Kiprop faulted the government for selecting courses for students without putting their choices into consideration.
He urged the government to review the selection process in a bid to allow bright students pursue their dream careers.
