The matatu crew that ferry passengers to Makongeni accused the officials of plotting to take over the stage from them as well as mismanaging the money they collect from their matatus daily.

"This a plot to take over this 'shimo' from us by the four officials who have been running it for the last eight months. We cannot accept it and it will not happen," Joseph Karanja, the leader of the matatu crew said.

The officials on the other side refuted the claims of planning a takeover of the stage and mismanaging the monies collected from the matatus.

"There is nothing like what they are claiming. We have the authority over this stage and whenever we enforce it and insist that they (matatu crew) have to be disciplined, they always cry foul and make such allegations. Also the money collected here is used for the running stage logistics," Samuel Maina, one of the officials said.

However, Hospital Ward MCA Mwangi Wamwangi intervened in a meeting held later at the nearby St Patricks Primary School.

"The stage does not belong to any of the two groups. Normalcy must resume at the stage immediately. The two disputing groups have elected six interim officials, three each, who will ensure that all underlying issues are resolved amicably," said Wamwangi.
