Former powerful Defense and Interior Minister Julius Sunkuli has expressed his regrets following the decision to run again his younger brother.
In a bizarre incident that attracted failed intervention from Maasai elders, Mr Sunkuli contested for senatorial seat against his younger brother Andrew Sunkuli.
While Andrew ran as an Independent candidate, Julius used the defunct The National Alliance. They lost to Stephen Ole Ntutu, who retired from politics in 2017.
In an interview with the Sunday Nation, Sunkuli who has since returned to his law firm, said that the incident was regrettable.
"My greatest political regret is vying against my younger brother in the Narok senatorial race in 2013," he said.
"We just didn’t lose politically but we lost face. No one should ever go to a political contest with his blood brother."
Sunkuli lost his attempt to recapture Kilgoris seat in 2017. He served in the region from 1992 to 2002.
On retired President Daniel Moi's exit, Sunkuli recalled that the Narc goverment at first was reluctant to deal with KANU outgoing officials.
"For instance, my successor Chris Murungaru did not want me to hand over to him. He just took my office without ceremony," he added.
