Abagusii council of elders chairman James Araka Matundura has thrown his weight behind Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i ahead of 2022 polls.
Matundura while speaking in Kisii town on Friday said Matiang'i is fit to vie for the presidency, therefore, he should not be taken for granted.
"Kisii leaders need to know Matiang'i has everything needed to vie for presidency in this country. A section of leaders taking Matiang'i for granted must stop and consider supporting Matiang'i for the top seat when the time comes," he noted.
Matundura said Matiang'i should not be likened to former veteran politician Simon Nyachae who did not make it to State House during his time.
He appealed to the Gusii community to support one of their own instead of rallying behind politicians from other regions.
"As a community, we should not be our own enemy. Let us stand with Matiang'i, support him while he is discharging his duties as Cabinet Secretary and push him to go for the top seat in this country," he maintained.
The chairman assured that the elders are behind Matiang'i.
Matundura reiterated the elders' efforts to spearhead preaching of peace, unity and harmony among community members.
